About Us
Founded in 2002 and based in Portland, Oregon, Blue Lake Children's Publishing creates magazines and reading toys for today's children. We believe that creating new magazines with engaging characters and innovative formats will capture the imagination of today's media-savvy child and promote reading as a source of entertainment. We work with nationally recognized early reading experts and create all of our content in-house.
An entrepreneur at heart, Judy has co-founded three companies in the last 15 years including PrintPaks, a children’s software company sold to Mattel in 1999. Judy spent seven years with Hewlett Packard, starting as product manager for the first color HP DeskJet printer and finally Worldwide Product Marketing Manager for the $3.5B HP DeskJet brand.
Judy’s parents were public school teachers in Miami, Florida. Judy graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983, and earned her MBA at the University of California Los Angeles in 1988. She also completed the Stanford Professional Publishing course in 2001.

Rosie has been Judy’s friend and business partner for almost 20 years. She is the design and creative genius behind Blue Lake Children’s Publishing. She created the characters of Tessy the duck and Tab the kangaroo in 2002. Rosie created Clark the Baby Shark in 2008.
A gifted graphic designer with corporate clients ranging from Fred Meyer to Seiko, Rosie also continues to create fine art. Rosie studied Fine Art & Design in Edinburgh Scotland and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
